At the Soda Maker Club, we've done incredibly extensive research into all currently available soda makers on the market. Through this process, we have been able to come up with the best soda maker for every price range. There may be some very good soda machines that aren't on this list but these are the appliances that will be the best for the majority of buyers. Enjoy!
In the 0 to $60 price range, we found that the SodaPlus Soda Siphon beat all its competition, even though it was a close choice. In this price range, all of the soda makers are soda siphons (small devices attached to bottles that carbonate the water in them with a CO2 cartridge). The SodaPlus had pretty much all of the good qualities a soda siphon needs and that is why we consider it to be the best soda maker under $60.
First of all, the bottle it comes with is made of stainless steel. Stainless steel is the best material for soda siphons since it doesn’t transfer any metallic taste to the water, it is sturdy and is in general an ideal material for kitchen appliances thanks to its quality. Other soda siphons like the SodaSparkle or the Cuisinart CSS-100 are made of plastic that is more prone to breaking. There were of course other stainless steel soda siphons like the iSi or the Mastrad.
This brings me to its next quality: it is dishwasher safe. Surprisingly, almost all soda siphons are not dishwasher safe and need to be hand washed except for the Mastrad. However, many users have complained about how their Mastrad soda siphon was developing rust therefore we cannot give it the top spot. The fact that it is dishwasher safe makes it more convenient to clean and thus to use for any one with a dishwasher.
On top of that, the SodaPlus Soda Siphon can accept generic CO2 cartridges instead of requiring one specific brand. This allows it to use Leland’s CO2 cartridges that can be bought online in bulk for significantly cheaper than some of the competition which makes operating the SodaPlus quite economical. Even though it is slightly on the pricier side, the savings from the cheaper CO2 cartridges more than make up for it.
Finally, it is easy to use and not too slow at carbonating water for a soda siphon. Unfortunately, all metal soda siphons take a bit of time and aren’t extremely efficient at creating sparkling water. Nonetheless, the positive user reviews show that most people enjoyed this soda maker and it received very few user complaints. For these reasons, we give it the title of best soda maker under $60.
In the 60 to $100 price range, we found that the SodaStream Genesis was the best soda maker available. The soda machines in this category are all basic soda makers without too many additional features but the SodaStream Genesis outshone its competition with its quality and ease of use.
For starters, the Genesis comes with the longest warranty offered by SodaStream (10 years). This reflects the brand’s trust in the quality of the machine. The quality of the machine is also shown by the very positive user reviews and very few complaints about the machine itself. For a basic soda maker, it offers very good value in terms of quality. All the other appliances in this category have received numerous user complaints about parts breaking but you can be sure that the Genesis will last for a while.
Also, the SodaStream Genesis is very easy to use and has a simple design. This is however shared by the other soda makers in this category due to their basic nature. Nonetheless, the Genesis is efficient and you won’t have any trouble using it, even though it isn’t the most efficient soda machine out there.
Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the 130L carbonator (metal cylinder that provides the CO2) but rather just the 60L one. We don’t consider this to be a big issue since if you’d like to reduce your trips to the exchange location, you could simply buy another 60L carbonator since most SodaStream machines do not come with the 130L carbonator anyways, even if they can use it.
Finally, in terms of looks, it is above average, ranking second out of the 4 in the category. Its simple design gives it a certain minimalist appeal even though it doesn’t look as modern as the SodaStream Play. Thanks to these features and its low price, we gave the SodaStream Genesis the title of the best soda maker under $100.
In the $100-$180 price range, we found that SodaStream Power surpassed the competition by a decent margin. At these prices, soda makers offer extra features such as a snap-lock mechanism to attach the bottle, being able to infuse your drink with flavor while carbonating it or even buttons that, once pressed, let the soda maker do the hard work for you. This is the case of the SodaStream Power. It has 3 different buttons that carbonate your drink according to your desired level of carbonation. This is why it needs to be plugged in constantly which can be seen as a drawback.
Nonetheless, these buttons coupled with the snap-lock mechanism (the easier of the 2 mechanisms to attach carbonating bottles) make the SodaStream Power extremely easy to use as well as convenient. For people who drink a fair bit of soda/sparkling water, this is the machine to get since you won’t ever consider that carbonating your drink is a hassle.
On top of that, it is made of metal which makes it sturdier and more resistant. This leads to it being of better quality which can be seen by the few user complaints about this soda maker. In its category, its quality is only surpassed by the SodaStream Crystal that has hardly any user complaints. However, it is harder to use and more expensive but is still a good option for more casual drinkers of seltzer water.
Finally, it has a great design and is one of the most attractive soda makers. It’s slick and minimalist style will be a great addition to any modern kitchen. It even comes with a LED fizz indicator that shows whether your drink is carbonated or not. Unfortunately, it only has limited lifetime warranty which is slightly less than the SodaStream Crystal. To sum it all up, we find that the SodaStream Power is the best soda maker in the $100-$180 price range due to its quality, convenience and ease of use.
To finish up the list, we’ve got the most expensive category with soda makers ranging from $180-$250. We found that the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker provided an amazing mix of quality, convenience and that overall, it was the best soda maker. Honorable mentions go out to the SodaStream Penguin for its unique design and inherent playfulness.
First of all, you can’t talk about the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker without mentioning its amazing quality. Hands down, this is the highest quality home soda maker that is currently available on the market. This justifies its rather heavy price tag. With a great metal construction and hardly any user complaints at all, it is evident that this KitchenAid machine will last you a while. On top of that, it is assembled in the United States which is a big plus/point of differentiation since most other soda makers are manufactured in China.
It also comes with a couple of extra features such as a carbonation meter that shows how much fizz was added to your drink as well as a handy carbonation level that makes creating sparkling water easy and hassle free. It also uses a snap-lock mechanism instead of a twist-on mechanism (the harder one).
Even though it isn’t as convenient as the SodaStream Revolution that has buttons to carbonate your drink, it is still easier to use than the SodaStream Penguin and takes very little time compared to the average soda maker, in part thanks to the snap-lock mechanism. This does however mean that it doesn’t need to be plugged in to carbonate water.
Moreover, it comes in a wide variety of colors and has a good design, superior to the SodaStream Revolution by far but less unique than the one of a kind SodaStream Penguin. It also uses the SodaStream refill system instead of cartridges or other refill systems. In fact, it accepts the 60L SodaStream carbonators.
To summarize, we chose the KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker to be the best soda maker in the $180-$250 category thanks to its outstanding quality combined with its ease of use. Even though the SodaStream Revolution is the most convenient soda maker while the SodaStream Penguin is the most unique and playful, the KitchenAid soda maker is the best overall and will satisfy all potential users that don’t mind its elevated cost.
And this brings our list of the best soda maker in price range. We tried to evaluate each machine as objectively as possible and pick the ones that would satisfy the widest proportion of consumers. The ones we chose are not always the best in each category but have the best overall characteristics. This is why there are great soda makers that weren’t included in this list that could be good for you if you are really searching for one specific characteristic or feature (like having the appearance of a Penguin for example).
